Chelsea – Expected FIFA 14 player ratings

– By Ambuj Gupta

Goalkeepers:

Petr Cech – FIFA 13 Rating: 84 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 85

Another busy season for the Chelsea #1. Played in 59 games for the Blues and did no harm to his reputation despite making mistakes on a few occasions. In his 30s now, Cech is reaching the age where goalkeepers usually perform at their peak.

Thibaut Courtois – FIFA 13 Rating: 79 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 81

The youngster added more rave reviews to his already growing reputation with some fine performances in his second successive stint on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Defenders:

Cesar Azpilicueta – FIFA 13 Rating: 77 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 80

Signed from Marseille, the young right back displayed maturity beyond his age and made a total of 48 appearances for the club and earned a call for the Spanish national team.

Bransilav Ivanovic – FIFA 13 Rating: 82 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 83

The Serbian enjoyed a good season with the club and in addition to providing defensive solidarity, scored a few goals from set pieces. Following his busiest season since joining the club, Ivanovic can expect an increase in his ratings.

Gary Cahill – FIFA 13 Rating: 79 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 81

Known for his ability to read signs of danger early, Cahill started a few important games for Chelsea and filled in aptly for John Terry. Made a total of 45 appearances and scored 6 goals as well.

John Terry – FIFA 13 Rating: 84 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 82

Failed to make a regular spot for himself in the starting XI. Could only manage 14 league appearances in a season blighted with injuries and controversies. Now 33, Terry’s future at Chelsea is under scrutiny.

David Luiz – FIFA 13 Rating: 79 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 83

Not the most technical of defenders, Luiz made a total of 57 appearances in a busy season for Chelsea and was even deployed in midfield by Rafael Benitez. Scored a few beautiful goals from distance and even took a few of Chelsea’s free kicks.

Ashley Cole – FIFA 13 Rating: 84 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 84

Made a total of 51 appearances for the club and signed a one-year contract extension in January. Should play an important role next season as well, although Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in signing Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid.

Ryan Bertrand – FIFA 13 Rating: 71 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 73

Scored his first ever goal for Chelsea in the Community Shield match against Manchester City and went on to make 38 appearances in his busiest season for the club. Should see a rise in his ratings.

Midfielders:

John Obi Mikel – FIFA 13 Rating: 80 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 80

Made a handful of appearances for the club in the absence of Essien and signed a contract extension that would keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2017. Lack of consistency has marred his progress at the club. Overall, an average season for the Nigerian international.

Frank Lampard – FIFA 13 Rating: 83 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 83

Broke the record of Bobby Tambling to become the leading goal scorer at Chelsea. Despite indifferent treatment from owner Roman Abramovich, the fan favourite kept putting in decent performances and ended the season with 17 goals in 50 appearances. The rumoured arrival of Jose Mourinho should extend his stay at Stamford Bridge for one more year at least.

Michael Essien – FIFA 13 Rating: 82 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 81

Spent the season on-loan at Real Madrid and played in a variety of roles with the Spanish giants, ending the season with one goal in 34 appearances.

Ramires – FIFA 13 Rating: 81 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 84

A fine season for the stylish Brazilian where he made a significant contribution to his side’s success in both the Premier League as well as the Europa League. Scored 9 and assisted 6 in a total of 62 appearances this season. Known for his blistering pace and an incredible work ethic, Ramires should see a considerable rise in his ratings.

Oriol Romeu – FIFA 13 Rating: 72 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 73

A good start under Roberto Di Matteo was followed by a terrible injury in December that kept him out for the remainder of the season.

Oscar – FIFA 13 Rating: 80 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 84

Rocked the big stage following his big money move from Internacional. Similar to Frank Lampard in his style of play, Oscar played in 64 of Chelsea’s games and scored 12 while assisting 12 other goals. The youngster is just 21 and the ease with which he has settled in England shows his maturity.

Marko Marin – FIFA 13 Rating: 78 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 76

Found himself out of favour as the former Werder Bremen man was forced to compete for a place in starting XI. Never really looked at home in his debut season with Chelsea and could only manage six premier league appearances.

Juan Mata – FIFA 13 Rating: 86 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 89

Carried forward his fine form of last season and scored and assisted goals aplenty. Mata mustered 64 appearances for the Blues this season wherein he scored 20 goals and assisted 36; a fine, fine return for a midfielder. He was also named the Chelsea Player’s Player of the Year and should expect a rise in his rating.

Eden Hazard – FIFA 13 Rating: 87 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 89

Took no time to settle in the physical style of play in the premier league. Ended the season with a total of 13 goals in 62 appearances and dazzled the spectators with his blistering pace and amazing dribbling skills.

Forwards:

Fernando Torres – FIFA 13 Rating: 84 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 84

Finally managed to get himself amongst goals but still couldn’t justify his hefty price tag. In his busiest season with Chelsea, Torres managed to score 22 goals. Following the arrival of Demba Ba in January, Torres’s appearances were limited to Europa League or as a substitute for Ba in the Premier League. The Spaniard also played an important role in helping Chelsea clinch the Europa League.

Demba Ba – FIFA 13 Rating: 82 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 83

Played the first half of the season for Newcastle before being transferred to Chelsea in January. Ba however failed to reciprocate his form of St. James at Stamford Bridge and after scoring 13 times for Newcastle in 22 games in the first half, could only score six goals in 22 appearances for the Blues. Will get demoted in the packing order should Chelsea decide to sign another striker.

Romelu Lukaku – FIFA 13 Rating: 74 | Expected FIFA 14 Rating: 79

Spent the season on loan at West Brom and impressed everyone with his physicality and an eye for goal. The Belgian international ended the season with 17 goals and 4 assist for the Baggies in 35 league appearances. In his final game at the Hawthorns, Lukaku scored a hat-trick against Manchester United after coming on as a substitute in the beginning of the second half. Still just 20, Lukaku will see a steep rise in his ratings.

I disagree….demba ba proved that he is a big addition to the chelsea team by scoring more goals than torres in just half a season…

Hazard 89?! I think Fifa have already declared he’s going to be 83! Realistically I don’t think half of these predictions are going to come true.

Seriously torres 84 and ba 83?!

Ratings may be a little more dramatic than what will realistically happen… EA doesn’t throw around 3-4 OVR upgrades this much you should expect players like David Luiz, Ramires, azpilicueta, hazard, and Mata to get a 1-2 OVR upgrade at most
